llmer-Struber family for many years. Who was Joseph Struber? Born on the 13th February, 1773, Joseph Struber achieved fame as an heroic defender of the province of Salzburg. |
| In 1809 Austria was at war with Napoleonic France. On the 25th of September, Salzburg forces attacked the French forces occupying the Lueg Pass, which links the town of Golling with Werfen. Leading his troops across the steep Tennengebirge range, Joseph Struber skirted the pass and attacked the Franco-Bavarian unit on the flank. |

The enemy was obliged to give up the Lueg Pass and withdraw towards Hallein. For his courageous actions, Joseph Struber was promoted to the rank of a major by the famous Andreas Hofer on the very same day. In 1817 he was awarded the Gold Medal, second class, with a citation in the Emperor's own hand. Joseph Struber died on the 19th July, 1845. |
